FAQ – Trees
Below are some common questions we receive. If you would like advice please contact us.
Q. When is the best time to carry out work on my trees?
We operate all year round as trees are generally not too fussy about when they are pruned. The dormant, winter, period is often better for deciduous trees that have lost their leaves as branch and fork defects can be more easily spotted. Some trees ‘bleed’ quite heavily if pruned in the spring and early summer but current research suggests that this bleeding is actually doing no harm to the tree. Fruit trees are sometimes more specific about when they are pruned both in terms of productivity and disease control. One of our consultants will be happy to discuss this with you.
Q. Will my property be damaged when you fell the tree?
Should tree removal be the only option, you can rely on our expertise to carry out this operation efficiently and safely. We are fully insured against accidental damage.
Q. Will you leave me with a mess or can you take the branches away?
We take pride in leaving the work site clean and tidy.
Q. The tree that needs work is very tall. Are you equipped to safely work on high trees?
Yes, our team of specialists is qualified in high-climbing work and has all the required expertise and safety equipment.
Q. Do you take everything away or can I keep the logs for firewood?
We can remove all material arising from a job although we do encourage our customers to recycle. Most of our end products provide useful, recyclable materials. Mulch around plants will suppress weeds and reduce the need for watering. Logwood, if properly seasoned and burnt in approved appliances, is an extremely efficient means of heating and is carbon neutral.
Q. I love trees, but I want my view back. Can you help?
Trees can often enhance a view, adding depth and scale to a landscape. There are usually alternatives to removing or topping your trees. Our experienced consultants will be happy to discuss the harm caused by topping trees and will explore with you some of the possible options.
Q. The tree is touching power lines / the tree is damaging my property – can you help?
Our trained operators can safely carry out internationally approved pruning techniques to reduce the growth of the tree, without creating vigorous and potentially hazardous regrowth.
Q. Can you remove stumps?
Yes, we can remove stumps from the most awkward locations.
Q. I’ve heard that I can legally cut off any branches from my neighbour’s tree which overhang my property provided I throw all the logwood and fruit back over their side – is that correct?
We always encourage people to reach an agreement over these issues in a neighbourly way. We can help by talking to your neighbour on your behalf. If diplomacy has failed we can help you understand your rights and responsibilities under the Property Law Act, however we always advise that qualified legal advice is sought. And yes, your neighbour owns all the produce from a tree on their land and it must be returned if required.
