In spite of blustery conditions the 2014 Big Beach Clean Up was a huge success with 4 tonne of rubbish removed from the coastline by volunteers working around the region. Thirty teams in boats, outrigger canoes and on foot, covered 52 beaches in an intensive three hour spring clean of the Nelson/Tasman shore.

Nelmac Betta-Bins compactors were on site at Tahunanui Beach, Jubilee Park and in Motueka  to collect the rubbish from the proud but weary crews as they arrived. This year’s odd items included 3 garden gnomes (Tasman) , coins in 5 different currencies (Haulashore Island)  and 700 kgs of wine bottles collected from the seabed at Anchorage.

Congratulations to the organisers and to the 30 volunteer groups who took part.  You are truly fantastic.
