Miyazu You?

Congratulations to Nelson City Council, the Nelmac Parks Team & the Nelson-Miyazu Sister City Association, for treating Nelsonians to a totally magical day out at this year’s Cherry Blossom Festival at Miyazu Park.

Just hours after the Japanese (Brave Blossoms) rugby team defeated South Africa in the greatest upset in rugby history, hundreds turned out to bask in Nelson sunshine to celebrate cultural diversity and the coming of spring.

While the rugby received many a mention, the day was equally filled with the sound of drums and music, artistic displays, a huge array of food stalls, free water for all (as part of the Bring Your Water Bottle initiative)  and families and friends as far as the eye could see.

From the grassy knolls, to the glistening ponds, the awe inspiring bamboo stands and the cherry blossoms themselves, Miyazu park has grown to become a much used and treasured  jewel in Nelson’s horticultural crown.
